It's only taken me an unrealistically long time to get my Fox portable No. 2 back together and working, but regardless, it is done. Still a wee bit troublesome to type on (Fox portables are finicky beyond belief), so it'll need some more time on the workbench to be tuned just right. But the majority of the work is done.
The Fox was not the only 3-bank machine on the workbench today, however. Lo and behold, my very first (and as of current non-operational) Hammond typewriter!
I'm trying to figure out how to get it to print properly. The typeshuttles get sluggish and dont always return to the neutral point, when it does type its faded and splotchy to the point you cant really make out the characters, and the timing between keystroke and hammer strike may be off a bit. But hell, nothing ever goes right anyway, so it was expected. Time to learn the nuisances of the Hammond.

ReplyDeleteI don't sell these - it is just an example - you can basically try to make the strip yourself too.
I had made a strip out of rubber material I had on hand, but I think in the end it was too thick. I ended up just buying the one off of Ebay.
